The hem lace is a variation of the feather and fan motif, seen in traditional Scottish hap shawls. This design is a tribute to those timeless beauties, now worked in a modern one-piece construction. Because the hap was a workaday garment, this version is named for the Shetland sheepdog, which also sports a coat of dramatic shading in brown, gray, and white.
